This is not feminism. This is an unhealthy body image brought on by society. Society meaning men and women alike.
And actually. It’s mostly women that are putting the weight crap on other women. So hush.
And that is exactly why this IS feminism.
This is society-wide, but OP is correct. Men are like this because of misogyny; women are like this because of internalized misogyny. Feminism is needed to bring about and end to both. So you hush.
“Men are like this because of misogyny; women are like this because of internalized misogyny. Feminism is needed to bring about and end to both.” <- THIS!
It’s not a gender issue. Fat-shaming is only a thing if people are not height-weight proportionate, which IS unhealthy. And if fat women is so terrible, try being a fat man! Fat men have it just as bad as fat women.
I’d say that’s not necessarily true. Because of the gender binary women and men are valued for different things: men are expected to be wealthy, “success objectification,” while women are expected to be physically attractive (primarily because physical attractiveness indicates health and reproductive capacity), “sexual objectification.” What this means is that being seen as unattractive is more of a burden on women, while being seen as poor is far more of a burden on men.
That said, the belief that women who weigh more than 120lbs are “whales” is not a universal societal belief, but rather one held by a comparatively small and rather stupid (and immature) section of the population. The rest of the world has much more reasonable standards, though that’s not to say weight-shaming isn’t common at much higher weights. If you’re running into this sentiment regularly, I would advise reconsidering the people you hang out with, or possibly graduating from middle school.I weigh 130 and have no inhibitions in saying so. I weighed 140 when I worked out regularly. I’m a size 5, sometimes 7. Weight has absolutely nothing to do with anything unless it’s between those of the same sex. Men do the same thing, except it’s usually in an attempt to weigh more. People are attracted to what they’re attracted to. If a guy thinks you’re a whale, oh fucking well. Body proportion is always going to factor into attraction.
You don’t need feminism. You need to stop giving a fuck.
I can’t even form a logical argument to counter the stupidity of this picture. Luckily I don’t have to.
